Alberta initiates to combat Cystic Fibrosis disease

To tackle with the most common lethal inherited recessive disease Cystic Fibrosis (CF) that nearly affects 1 in 2500 infants and approximately 50,000 folks worldwide Alberta, the first province worldwide has initiated to test newborn babies for cystic fibrosis disease. If we see the case of Jake Szatmary who was diagnosed in its first year after undergoing through three horrible months with sickness and malnutrition now, receives enzymes that helps him to digest his food, a device to pump medication to his lungs, clap therapy and 20-minute sessions a day of back slapping to loosen mucus that builds up in the lungs. Martin Somerville, director of medical genetics at the University of Alberta says: If the disease is diagnosed and treated earlier, the child receives more nutrients, shows improved lung function and grows taller. After conducting several tests province has revealed that early detection of this genetic disease in first month of newly born babies can result superior health and quality of life and therefore to combat this horrible disease now, province has introduced its new screening programe to collect blood samples from every new born babies to check disease.
