Normally a pacemaker patient has to undergo a surgical procedure about every 10 years for battery replacement, which not only proves too expensive but sometimes cause a grim risk for the health of the patient.
Pollsters from Zarlink Semiconductor, UK are all set for a series of pacemakers that works on heat produced by body frictions or movement. The latest device comes battery-free and employs micro generators that generate energy with the every move of the pacemaker recipient. The latest research project will cost about £1 million ($1.96 million) that will be shouldered by the Department of Trade and Industry and a bunch of private enterprise.
