Normally a pacemaker patient has to undergo a surgical procedure about every 10 years for battery replacement, which not only proves too expensive but sometimes cause a grim risk for the health of the patient. Pollsters from Zarlink Semiconductor, UK are all set for a series of pacemakers that works on heat produced by body frictions or movement. The latest device comes battery-free and employs micro generators that generate energy with the every move of the pacemaker recipient. The latest research project will cost about £1 million ($1.96 million) that will be shouldered by the Department of Trade and Industry and a bunch of private enterprise. David Hatherall, from Zarlink Semiconductor, depicts about the latest technology, The ability to fit and forget implantable devices in terms of their power supply will have significant clinical and quality of life benefits.
