Betty-Blue is a two year old South-African cheetah, which had lost 2.5-inches of her rear paw, when she was caught in a trap laid down by farmers to protect their livestock. The cheetah was taken to a vet and the doctors were so shocked at the incident that initially they thought to euthanise her. But finally the docs thought of making the cheetah survive so they had to amputate her rear paw. Cheetahs are born to hunt and they rely on their speed to do so. An amputated Cheetah will die in days without food. Considering this the docs thought of giving the cheetah some reason to live. They are now developing a prosthetic limb for the cheetah. The operation will be conducted at the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Centre, near Johannesburg. The operation will be the first of its kind and will be performed in Early 2007. The prosthetic limb will not give the Cheetah a speed of 120 Kmph but will surely give her a reason to live.
