What are brain-imaging technologies? Simple definition of this term can be technologies that help us to read or scan the brain. The term is much more complicated that it appears, there are a lots ot such technologies existing today, the latest and most interesting among them is Magneto-encephalography. Magneto-encephalography: As we, all know our brain generates some signals or pulses of weak current used by the neuron cells to communicate and transmit the data. This theory work on this principal. It picks up the magnetic field generated by the neurons every time they are active. You can look at how the networks of the brain are talking to each other in real time. The apparatus used in the process is very costly and sensitive and can be used in appropriate environment as the waves associated to the brain are very weak so ultra sensitive Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices or SQUIDs are used to detect these signals. The SQUIDs rely on superconductors so they are maintained at extremely low temperatures using liquid helium. EEG and functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI are some other technologies that can provide with vital information about the status of the brain. EEG is based on tracking the electric field and fMRI technique is used to measure the movement of blood within the brain. The scans reveal which brain areas are active and need oxygen from the blood. Combination of fMRI and MEG Researchers have found recently that the combination of the two technologies shapes a much more powerful technology that can help them to solve various problems related to the brain. The combination was used to detect the cause of Grey’s Anatomy effect. It may be defined as study for a cause of a subject who feels isolated. W. Keith Campbell, a psychology professor at the University of Georgia, and his colleagues recruited 30 female students who underwent what they thought were ordinary personality tests while being monitored by an MEG scanner. The test laid the results and predicted the future relations success rate. The technology is under research for feasibility of brain interfacing devices.
