Scientists at the University of New Hampshire are trying to make an operating room in which all the medical instruments can talk to one another.
They are using a tool dubbed CANopen, which till now was used in automotive industry. This tool enables all the medical gadgets to talk to one another in the same language. Their ultimate aim is to simplify patient management.
The developed product is a special kind of bed which can respond to the blood pressure of the patient lying on it. For example if docs want to keep the BP of a patient steady, they can program the bed to automatically rise and fall to maintain that programmed figures.
Researchers also commented that this bed can talk to the BP monitor and they want that in the near future all the machines should talk to one another so that the patient can be effectively monitored.
But still like all other researches, this one also has some limitations. Like what will the bed do when the patient disconnects the lead and goes to a washroom...? The monitor will display that the heart has stopped and will make the bed rock up and down...!
