Around 400 companies atteneded the International Modern Hospital Show 2006 in Tokya that held from July 12 to 14. The theme of the show was ‘Reliable Health, Medical Treatment, and Care - Aiming for High Quality Service,’ a theme based on advanced technology in the medical field.



The medical products shown there looked unusual yet high-tech. Here is an explanation of one of the device displayed there along with the photo.



On the left of this photo is Muu Socia , an adorable cyclopean teardrop-shaped ‘communication support’ robot developed by ATR and Systec Akazawa. The robot funtions as a social mediator that livens up the communication between care giver and care recipient. Muu Socia has voice recognition, voice synthesis, speech processing and face recognition capabilities. Moreover, when something obstructs its view, it starts bouncing.



And the picture on the right is not of an owl but a home appliance control robot developed by RayTron Co. Ltd. Its voice-recognition capabilities help patients to operate their home appliances remotely.
