i-Stick: Intelligent walking stick to help elderly

A recent report by federal health officials stated that the older people are at higher risk of death due to falling in US. To combat such situations, a team of German scientists from the Franhofer Institute for Experimental Software Development in Kaiserslautern has developed an intelligent walking stick dubbed ‘i-Stick’ that makes an emergency call for an ambulance if the owner of the stick falls over. If the i-Stick is in a horizontal position, the built-in sensor signals the control unti that plays a message for the elderly person to pick it up. But, if the i-Stick remains for a longer spam on the surface, it dials a pre-programmed number or ambulance. It means you always have to take care that the i-Stick remains in right position. I think someone should come out with much better idea.
