BASF Future Business GmbH and OrganoBalance GmbH are working under a joint project to develop a varied range of personal care and oral hygiene products. They will make use of lactic acid bacteria (scientifically named lactobacilli) to develop the oral and skin care products. The doctors will exploit the ability of lactobacilli bacteria to fight against cariogenic microorganisms
The most expected products are deodorants to kill the body odor, anti skin irritation cosmetics and chewing gums to reduce caries. The first oral hygiene products containing probiotic lactobacilli are expected to come to the market in 2007.
