The knee hinge is the most prominent joint of human body during sports, athletics or any other physical activity. A knee brace is the best covering to protect this largest joint of the human body. The brace packs itself around the knee, thereby strengthening and protecting it. It also proves highly effective in treating arthritis and osteoarthritis ailments of the knee joint. In such disorders, the knee braces provide support and stability so that you can stretch your legs and perform all the daily chores without much pain.
Types of knee braces
There are four main types of knee braces:
1. Functional braces
These are the least expensive of all kinds and are used in treatment of knee disorders and in the past served as the primary form of knee brace for most. Functional knee braces reduce rotation and grant stability to the joint. Elastic braces are the most common form of functional braces.
2. Prophylactic braces
Mainly worn during sports activities by athletes, these braces are used to avoid injuries. Their sleeves are supportive and reduce the rotating ability of the knee. Neoprene braces are an example of prophylactic braces.
3. Rehabilitation braces
These braces are larger in size and are specifically used to limit the movement of the leg. Rehabilitation braces are prescribed right after a surgery to stop leg movement.
4. Unloader braces
Unloader braces help you recover from an injury by providing stability during standing, walking and running. These braces are used to cure arthritis pain and other knee alignment. A hinged knee brace is the best example of unloader braces.
Importance of knee braces
Out of all the sports injuries, at least 15% are related to knees, and most of these are likely to cause a disability. Also, 50% of visits to a sports doctor are due to knee injuries. Thus, there is no better solution than getting a knee brace to ensure perfect safety and functioning of your knees. A knee brace not only helps reduce pain but can also aid in healing from an injury. In case of disability, they can help in improving alignment and movement of the knee joint. So one can enjoy the comfort of a good knee brace while playing, or working, because it can provide relief or be a preventative measure.
